To clean the filter below the vent cover, disconnect your Over the Range Microwave from power and remove the filter. Those filters are sure to be very sticky as it would have accumulated grease over a period of time.

Fill up your kitchen sink with hot water. Add about 3 to 4 tablespoons of baking soda, depending on the amount of grease. Also, add a cup or two of dishwashing liquid to the mix. Now soak the grease filter in the mixture for at least 15 to 30 minutes.

Remove the filter from the mixture and wash it. By this time most of the sticky grease accumulated in the filter should have been washed away.

If this doesn’t work, make a paste of baking soda and apply it generously on the greasy filter surface. Now spray some vinegar on top of it and allow the mixture to bubble. Allow the solution to work on the grease for some time. Now gently scrub it to remove the grease and wash the filters.

If you still have some stubborn grease on the filter surface, squirt some degreaser on both sides of the filter and allow it to soak for a few minutes. Wash the filter and the filters will be clean and shiny.

Allow the filters to dry in sunlight, before replacing them back into your over the range microwave.
